Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Deputy Education Minister, has commended ANJEF International School, Ashaiman, for its Montessori teaching and learning method. The Minister explained that the Montessori teaching and learning method is what the government has adopted in the structuring of the new educational curriculum.By this method, lessons would be made more practical, and pupils’ ability to recall and apply answers to questions would be apt.Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said these in his speech at the commissioning of the ANJEF International School, Ashaiman, where he was the Special Guest of Honour.
The two-storey edifice has close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all the classrooms and compound to monitor activities and who comes in and goes out of the school. The elegance and architecture of the school building, Dr Adutwum said, should be a model the government ought to imitate in putting up public basic schools in future, saying,
“Our basic schools architecture is archaic, and government must consider changing it to an attractive plan like this one I am witnessing in Ashaiman”.
He encouraged parents to take advantage of the teaching and learning materials, coupled with the quality of teachers ANJEF can boast of, to enroll their wards in the school for better education.
In her welcome address, Adelaide Fergusson, Principal of the school, said the ANJEF would open for business for the 2019/2020 Academic Year, today, September 3, 2019, with the basic department to begin with.She told the gathering that admissions had begun, and in view of the quality of pupils the school would want to churn out, it would not congest a class.
“We have a conducive environment for learning, and you can trust the security of your wards once they are in the custody of the school,”she said.
Abraham Akwasi Afawuah, Executive Director of ANJEF International School, on his part, expressed immense gratitude to his family, the Ashaiman Assembly and Ghana Education Service (GES) for their support in putting up the infrastructure. He promised that the school would abide by the rules and regulations of the GES in order to be abreast with latest developments in the educational sector.
